Dungeons and Dragons, or DnD, is a fantasy table-top game that involves role-playing. It was originally designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson and first published by Tactical Studies Rules in 1974. The game is now being sold by Wizards of the Coast, which is also the publisher of the popular card game Magic The Gathering.
Dungeons and Dragons was influenced by war games and it is known as the beginning of the role-playing era. It differentiates from other war games becaus it assigns each player a different character and not a military formation. Each character will evolve on its own according to the player’s choices and the whole story has a fantasy setting.
A key figure in this game is the Dungeon Master, which is a player without a character that only directs the setting and the story, he also plays the role og the inhabitants of towns and villages. Players earn experience points and they get more powerful throughout the game.
It is estimated that more than 20 million people played the game since it was first published and book and equipment sales have earned the companies more than 1 billion dollars.
If you want to descend into a marvellous world of magic, goblins, dragons, powerful wizards and dreadful spirits, strange rituals and misterious artifacts, try Dungeons and Dragons with your friends!
