What is Porridge?
The porridge is a typical Anglo-Saxon dish. It is very popular in Great Britain, but it is going to be known also elsewhere, especially in other European countries or in America.
It could be a valid alternative to croissant and coffee or to the traditional English breakfast, which is made up of eggs, sausages, toasts, bacon beans, mushrooms and tomatoes.
Why is porridge so tasty and delicious?
It is often cooked with grain, rice, water (or milk), butter and flavourings such as:
- Chocolate (White, Milk or Dark, every type is good!)
- Spices and herbs (e.g. mint or cinnamon)
- Natural Yogurt
- Nuts (such as hazelnuts, almonds and so on)
- Red fruits (such as strawberries, raspberries, red grapefruit, cranberries or cherries)
However, this specialty has its advantages and its disadvantages. The positive thing is that porridge is healthy. Obviously, it has to be served in a simple way. It is perfect for those who want to keep fit and it has lots of beneficial properties for the body. However, the abuse of some ingredients (such as spices or chocolate) could change the ratio of calories. This could make porridge satiating: at the same time, it is perfect to have lunch without previous breaks.
